PRI is unable to award hours for sessions previously attended. \nPlease note that participants are responsible for ensuring online PRI sessions and the number of hours earned fulfill your system’s requirements. Credentialing requirements for online sessions stipulate all participants must (1) individually register\, and (2) log into the online session on their own device to received credit/hours for attending. Learners who participate in an online session via shared login will not receive a certificate. You’ll be able to join a different Zoom session\, from a stationary place\, at a later date. \nDescription: \nHigh-risk alcohol and drug use are more common in people with mental health conditions.  In this session\, we will dig into the “what\,” “why\,” and “how” of this co-occurrence.  First\, we will review research documenting the rates of co-occurrence of high-risk alcohol and drug use in various settings: the general population\, prevention programs\, treatment settings. We will then focus on what science has to say about why people with mental health disorders are more likely to use alcohol and drugs in high-risk ways including recent genetic research. Finally\, this session will describe the challenges individuals with mental health conditions may experience when participating in substance use prevention or treatment programs and strategies to address those challenges.  In this session\, the trainer will use a blend of didactic\, discussion\, and activities. \nGoals: \nParticipants will review information about the co-occurrence of mental health conditions and high-risk alcohol and drug choices\, learn about some recent research that helps us understand why mental health conditions and high-risk substance use co-occur\, and discuss how mental health conditions may impact Prime For Life and Prime Solutions participants’ ability to engage with these programs as well as strategies to increase engagement. \nLearning Objectives: \nAt the conclusion of the session\, participants will be able to: \nList at least three mental health conditions that commonly co-occur with high-risk substance use\nExplain at least one reason that mental health conditions commonly co-occur with high-risk substance use\nSummarize how mental health conditions can impact participation in prevention and treatment programs for high-risk substance use and select at least one strategy they can use to help participants with mental health conditions increase engagement. \nDates and Times (EASTERN TIME) \nJuly 17\, 2025: 3:00 – 4:30 PM Eastern Time \nTime Zone Converter (Zoom also gives you the option to add it to your local calendar): https://time.is/compare

SUMMARY:It Starts with Us: How Our Presence Impacts Change w/ special guest Sarah Niecko NEW!
DESCRIPTION:Register for this event \n*Repeated Session \nAll sessions are live-hosted\, screen-to-screen 1.5 hour Continuing Education Sessions (CES) with PRI Trainers. You’ll be able to join a different Zoom session\, from a stationary place\, at a later date. \nDescription: \nIn this interactive workshop\, University of Alaska professor Dr. Sarah Niecko blends scientific insights with experiential exercises to examine the physiology of safety and connection\, and how our presence impacts both learning and the change process. Participants will explore how the way we enter the learning space shapes the environment and influences what becomes possible for learners. Attendees will also learn practical strategies to support their own regulation\, with the understanding that tending to our internal state is not separate from our work\, it is an essential element of how we support others. \nGoals: \nParticipants will identify one personal default regulatory pattern that occurs when stress arises\, apply one to two strategies to return to a grounded responsive state during facilitation\, and identify one change in personal instruction that could be made to facilitate learning. They will also leave with one specific strategy that can be implemented to foster safety\, curiosity\, and reflection in the learning environment. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDescribe how instructor self-regulation influences the learning environment.\nIdentify common patterns that can impact the learning environment.\nDevelop awareness of their own regulatory patterns and how self-regulation can be used to promote learning.\nPractice simple\, in-the-moment strategies to return to a more grounded\, responsive state.\nApply these insights to create environments that support safety\, curiosity\, and meaningful reflection.\n\nDates and Times (EASTERN TIME) \nJuly 17\, 2025: 1:00 – 2:30 PM Eastern Time \nTime Zone Converter (Zoom also gives you the option to add it to your local calendar): https://time.is/compare

You’ll be able to join a different Zoom session\, from a stationary place\, at a later date. \nDescription: \nFor decades\, a common research finding reported in the media has been that low-level drinking can be beneficial. In the last few years there have been a lot of headlines suggesting there is no “safe” amount of drinking. What does the best evidence tell us\, and do the low-risk guidelines on alcohol need to be lowered? \nGoals:   \nThis session will focus on limitations of research and how these affect what we can confidently conclude from the best evidence. \nObjectives: \nAt the conclusion of this session\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify at least two limitations of research which might downplay the risks and overstate the potential benefits of low-level consumption.\nIdentify at least two ways the alcohol industry has attempted to influence alcohol research.\nIdentify at least two limitations to studies which might downplay the potential benefits and overstate the risks of low-level consumption.\nIdentify at least two ways low-level drinking seems to have potential health benefits for some people.\nIdentify at least two health problems that low-level drinking might increase risk for some people.\n\nDates and Times (EASTERN TIME) \nJuly 17\, 2025: 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM Eastern Time \nTime Zone Converter (Zoom also gives you the option to add it to your local calendar): https://time.is/compare
