Participants must attend the CES session in its entirety to receive a certificate.

Session Dates:

August 8, 2022, 11:00 AM ET
August 12, 2022, 10:45 AM ET
August 15, 2022, 11:00 AM ET

This session gives a framework for thinking about artistry and draws from definitions of art that provide common elements applicable to many things we do not usually think of as art. The shared elements in most definitions of art is that it is developed with visions, skill and imagination and has the ability to evoke emotion and thought in the viewer or participant. It can include things we make (such as paintings, sculptures, music, and books) or things we do (such as dance, singing, and even our work).  The session will then show how the skills we learn such as listening, reflecting, provoking thought and persuasion can be done with artistry. The session will also examine the source of the art (in the artist or somewhere else), the role of collaboration in our form of art, and the importance of belief in art.

The first goal is to provide a framework to understand why we have focused on some of the skills we have in PFL, PS and CE training events.

At the conclusion of this session, participants will:

In this session, participants will:

  • Be able to define art work done with vision, skill and imagination that is capable of evoking emotion and thought in those experiencing the work.
  • Be able to describe the importance of belief in any form of art and in our work.
  • Be able to describe how collaboration, listening, reflecting and persuasion can be done with artistry.
  • Be able to explain why preparation is such a key part of doing our work with artistry.
